OPENING CREDITS

To start off with, the definition of opening credits or opening titles is a list shown at the beginning of a film with the most important people listed. Some are designed -with or without music in the background- as a text superimposed on a blank screen or on pictures, and others are sometimes on top of an action. Another type of opening credits is called an opening title sequence, in which the credits are built into a sequence of their own.

Here is an example of an opening title sequence of the series "The Walking Dead" :

The opening credits of The Walking Dead change throughout the whole series. Most of the time, they relate the names of the actors with they personal assets of the series like guns, watches, photos...
Also, the opening credits shows locations seen throughout the season and change the next season, showing new images, including their theme song in the background and title of series.

Since the 1980's, the opening credits have presented the most important actors and crew, following on with the closing credits which presents the rest of crew and staff. However, up until the 1970's, films would only epitomize members of cast with crucial roles presented against a background (usually lasted minutes long), due to them listing nearly all cast and technical credits at the beginning of the film.

Apparently, there are opening credits that are placed on top the opening sequence of a film instead of in an independent title sequence.
